Three’s The Block NZ: Master bedrooms and ensuites revealed

This week on Three’s The Block NZ, teams were tasked with completing their master bedroom and ensuite space. Judges were impressed this week with the teams’ use of Resene colours like Resene Half Bianca and Resene Quarter Truffle that wrap around their master bedroom walls.

Teams gathered for a challenge earlier in the week in a bid to win a $10,000 cash prize (on top of their existing budget). All they needed to do was prepare a 90 second poem on ‘Block Life’ as part of a poetry slam competition. Quinn & Ben’s rendition of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air leaves the teams and judges in stitches, seeing them take home the extra cash prize.

Judging day arrives, and although Chloe & Ben have been on a strong winning streak, this week tests the pair. We’re left again with a classic The Block NZ cliff-hanger as to who will take out this week’s room reveal.

We take a look at the teams’ master bedrooms and ensuites below:

Maree & James used the warm and fleecy Resene Half Bianca on the walls, and Resene Blanc on the ceiling and trims this week.

Although Maree & James had a minor mishap this week forgetting to order their Resene wall paint colour, Resene Half Bianca did end up on all four walls. The judges comment the hue is beautiful, soft and calming. They like the room and applaud the pair for great styling. They also love the closet with a ‘his’ and ‘hers’ side complete with a makeup station. Jason says the colour palette feels clean and minimal and their ensuite with hotel-style double mirrors adds elegance.

Stacy & Adam’s master bedroom & ensuite

Health struggles were Stacy & Adam’s main battle this week, both sent into isolation with flu symptoms. Thankfully they finished their rooms feeling upbeat. Resene Quarter Truffle makes for a soothing space in their master bedroom, the hue has a unique touch of taupe that’s easy on the eye. The judges agree the couple has really thought about furniture placement and proportion this week. They like the colour palette and feel the room and ensuite are overall very polished and finished. Shelley is excited about their style, which she says is a nod to a classic style. She thinks it will appeal to a broad market.

Quinn & Ben’s master bedroom & ensuite

Quinn & Ben had high hopes this week, as their master bedroom was their most successful room in their previous season. Resene Quarter Foggy Grey from the Karen Walker Paints collection hugs their master bedroom, impressing the judges. They comment that it is lovely and spacious, with great use of colour across the walls. Resene Quarter Foggy Grey offers a sense of softness and depth, Shelley says. It feels snuggly, says Jason. Shelley loves the wall to wall headboard, with integrated light switches. The ensuite has a Spanish vibe, with a generous shower, and they agree it is beautifully finished and the painting is excellent.

Chloe & Ben’s master bedroom & ensuite

Chloe & Ben were pushed for time this week, and it shows in their finishing of the room, the judges comment. At room reveal, Jason says he was hoping for blue or grey wrapping around the room, so felt disappointed with the neutral scheme. Resene Half Sea Fog featured on the upper wall and ceiling, with Resene Quarter Pravda on the feature panelled wall. Shelley commented that there was no bedside lighting, and they should have mounted their mirror in the wardrobe. In their ensuite, artwork has taken a tumble off the wall. Chloe & Ben say they aren’t surprised by the comments.

Top tip: Make sure your bathroom is adequately ventilated before you start redecorating; otherwise you may find your new bathroom finish doesn't last long in a wet and steamy environment. Resene has a range of kitchen and bathroom paints formulated with anti-bacterial silver and MoulDefender to protect your bathroom. Use Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom on walls, Resene Resene SpaceCote Flat Kitchen & Bathroom on your ceiling and Resene Lustacryl Kitchen & Bathroom semi-gloss on trims. If you do find mould appearing in your bathroom, treat it with Resene Moss & Mould Killer.
