A Christmas rainbow masterpiece for the mantelpiece

08 Dec 2022

This is one Christmas craft that won’t go unnoticed. Placed on the mantelpiece above your fireplace, these colourful Resene ‘tree-angles’ will be the centrepiece in your house this holiday season. Use any colours you want to suit your palette or home décor. You can even add some gold baubles  - or refresh old ones with Resene Gold metallic paint - to add a little sparkle.

You will need:

Step 1: Use scrap wood to cut out tall triangles. Vary the angle of the cut and the height of the triangles so that you get a variety of sizes. Use sandpaper to sand any rough edges smooth.

Step 2: Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to prime the triangle trees. Once the paint is dry, give it a light sand with a fine grit sandpaper and wipe off the sanding dust.

Step 3: Apply two coats of your chosen Resene topcoat colour, allowing for the first coat to dry before applying the second coat. Use any Resene colours of your choice.

Step 4: Arrange the trees in whatever order you like; rainbow order or from dark to light. Panelling and mantel painted in Resene Half Rice Cake and faux tile stencil in Resene Half Rice Cake and Resene Rhino. For the trees Fleur used Resene Pompadour, Resene Drop Dead Gorgeous, Resene Hot Chile, Resene Paprika, Resene Hot August, Resene Fire, Resene Rose Of Sharon, Resene Antique Brass, Resene Pizza, Resene Karma, Resene Lemon Ginger, Resene Planter, Resene Como, Resene Cyprus, Resene Boost, Resene Astronaut Blue, Resene Surfs Up and Resene Indian Ink.
