Light up your Christmas with these DIY Christmas lanterns

23 Nov 2022

These Christmas lanterns are definitely a bright and colourful winner. You can choose any Resene colours you like to make your own jar lanterns, making them glow with candles for a cosy Christmas evening. Reuse any glass jars you have in the cupboard or from your recycling bin!

You will need:

Step 1: Clean and dry your three glass jars. Cut out some shapes using paper and scissors to use as a stencil. Fleur made a Christmas tree, heart and a star.

Step 2: Use some loops of sticky tape or double sided tape to stick the shapes on to the front of the jars. Try to position your shapes quite low down so that the flame from the short tea light candles can be seen through the glass. Paint your jars in your chosen Resene colours but be careful not to push paint under your paper shape. Fleur used Resene Paprika, Resene Saratoga and Resene Bullion. When using a Resene FX Metallic, apply the recommended basecoat colour first for the most stand out metallic colour effect.

Step 3: Once the paint has dried, carefully remove the paper shape and place a tealight candle in the bottom of the jar and let there be light.
