05 Jun 2025

The New Zealand Institute of Architects’ Local Architecture Awards 2025 is underway which aims to shine a spotlight on all forms of architecture from all corners of the country architecture that inspires, enriches and uplifts our lives.

First up is the Canterbury region where thirty-one projects were deemed the very best in the area, spanning a range of projects from a novel church conversion to a major public civic centre.

Some standout projects that also won Resene Colour Awards, are Red Pine Villa by Fabric and 36 OGB by AW Architects in the Interior Architecture category. Let’stake a look at why these projects took the spotlight!

Red Pine Villais a clever, Japanese inspired design which highlights angles, structural framing and striking hues.Colour was used minimally and effectively. The yolk-yellow living room nook in Resene Galliano is striking against rimu cladding and Resene Half Wheatfield walls. The deep green bathroom in Resene Waiouru adds a calming touch of nature. Design by Fabric Architecture, image by Stephen Goodenough.

36 OGB Apartment is a bold, yet sympathetic refurbishment. The careful reinstatement of heritage detailing is bravely complemented with a daring colour palette and subtle textures that result in a playful and unique inner-city apartment. A deep and moody colour palette with subtle textures, detailing and lighting is boldly offset with bursts of highlighter pink in Resene Ballerina and metallic surfaces. This project features Scarpa Flow throughout with contrasting Resene Black features. Design by AW Architects, image by Sarah Rowlands.
