Entries are now open for the 2023 Keep New Zealand Beautiful Awards

25 Jul 2023

The annual Beautiful Awards, organised by Keep New Zealand Beautiful, have been announced for 2023, marking the return of Aotearoa's longest-running sustainability awards.

These awards have been a consistent feature for over five decades, promoting environmental excellence in various categories such as individuals, schools, communities, towns and cities. While the event was postponed in 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it has otherwise been held uninterrupted since 1972.

The Beautiful Awards 2023 will encompass 12 distinct awards divided into four categories: Individuals, Community, Places, and Towns & Cities. They recognise outstanding individuals like the Young Legends and Tidy Kiwis of New Zealand, as well as commend community champions for their environmental initiatives.

The awards also acknowledge the Most Beautiful Small Town, Large Town, and City, the Most Sustainable School, the Best Street, and even the Best Loo in New Zealand.

Additionally, thanks to Resene, there is a Supreme Award available in the Towns & Cities category, granting the winning town or city a mural painting valued at up to $10,000.

Keep New Zealand Beautiful invites New Zealanders to nominate individuals, projects, and places that exemplify environmental excellence in New Zealand.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to host the Beautiful Awards once again, Keep New Zealand Beautiful CEO Heather Saunderson highlights the significance of celebrating environmental heroes across the country and showcasing sustainability initiatives in schools, communities, towns, and cities.

“This year we’ve made making a nomination to our Towns & Cities awards easier. We want Kiwis throughout the country to tell us what their town or city is doing to strive for excellence in sustainability. By simplifying the entry and nomination process, we hope to give communities an opportunity to rally together and shine a light on the amazing climate, conservation or environmental education projects that have taken place,” says Ms Saunderson.

Nominations for the Beautiful Awards are open from Monday 17 July until Friday 21 August 2023, and the winners will be announced at The Beautiful Ball, to be held at Parliament House on Thursday 9 November 2023.
