Interior trends predict a warm year ahead

19 Jan 2023

With various trends hitting the watchlist every year, the interior design industry predicts warm tones and neutrals, and elemental inspired shades will be a popular choice for the year ahead. From earthy browns to muted greens and warm reds, Resene has the colours to help you give your home a makeover this year.

Neutrals have always been a popular choice and we are seeing many nuances of earthy colours emerge each year. These tones can be easily layered with one another if they share a similar undertone, so if you love a good elemental shade, try pairing your wall colour with complementary accent pillows and throws or a natural jute rug.

This French beige floats between a light brown and a warm neutral, so if you’re thinking of trying Resene Canterbury Clay you can play around and team it with other earthy and elemental tones such a dusty terracotta like Resene Tuscany or an olive beige like Resene Stone Age.

Experts say that the colour brown, associated with the earth, gives a calming and resilient element that keeps us grounded. The adaptive neutral feel of Resene China Ivory works a charm with other equally warm tones. If you’re after a throwback 70s look, try it with copper browns, oranges and brassy yellows, such as Resene Cinnamon, Resene Buttercup or Resene Galliano.

Warm tones emit feelings of joy and playfulness. They can also be stimulating, making them a good choice for spaces that see a lot of activity, such as your living room. If you don’t want such a loud colour, try some ever-popular warm whites like Resene Merino, Resene Rice Cake or Resene Alabaster.
