Bring everlasting blooms into your home with this creative plywood flower DIY. Using scrap plywood, vibrant Resene testpot paints and a touch of Resene Crackle Effect for added texture, you can craft unique flowers that never wilt. Perfect as a centrepiece, a playful décor addition or even for the patio!
You will need:
- Scrap thin plywood, 3mm thick
- Pencil
- Jig saw or band saw
- Sandpaper
- Paintbrush
- Resene Quick Dry
- Resenetestpot paints in your favourite colours. Fleur used Resene Triple Concrete, Resene Rain Forest, Resene Coral Tree, Resene Volcano, Resene Buttercup, Resene Sassy, Resene Lemon Ginger, Resene Teal Blue, Resene Retro, Resene Rusty Nail, Resene Bunting and Resene Fire
- Resene Crackle Effect
Step 1: Start by using a pencil to draw flower and foliage shapes on to thin plywood. Use a jig saw or band saw to cut these out. Sand any rough edges smooth. Prime the flowers with one coat of Resene Quick Dry.
Step 2: Paint the flowers with two coats of your chosen paint colour. Fleur used Resene Triple Concrete, Resene Buttercup, Resene Bunting, Resene Coral Tree, Resene Lemon Ginger and Resene Retro.
Step 3: When the paint is dry, paint on one coat of Resene Crackle Effect. Leave this for two hours before applying the top coat.
Step 4: Finish the flowers by painting on one layer of top coat in your chosen paint colour. Fleur used Resene Rain Forest, Resene Sassy, Resene Fire, Resene Volcano, Resene Teal Blue and Resene Rusty Nail.
Note: Resene Crackle Effect causes the top coat to shrink and exposes the base coat colour underneath.
