How to make your own DIY terracotta candlesticks

04 Aug 2022

These candlesticks are cute as a button and make a great feature on a dining table, indoor or outdoor. With Resene paints, there is no limit to the colour combinations you can explore too.

Candlesticks looking bright in Resene Ocean Waves, Resene Salted Caramel, Resene Boost, Resene Good To Go and Resene Upside.

You will need:

  • 3 terracotta plant pots and three saucers
  • Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer
  • Industrial adhesive
  • Resene testpot paints in your choice of colours (Fleur used Resene Ocean Waves, Resene Salted Caramel, Resene Boost, Resene Good To Go and Resene Upside)
  • Paintbrush
  • Resene Clearcoat UVS

How to:

Step 1: Select three terracotta plant pots and matching saucers. Fleur went for one that was a bit bigger than the other two. Seal these with Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer.

Step 2: Use industrial strength adhesive to glue the saucers to the bottom of the pots. Leave them to cure for a day or two.

Step 3: Paint the pots and saucers in your choice of Resene colours. (Fleur used, from left to right, Resene Upside and Resene Boost, Resene Salted Caramel and Resene Ocean Waves and Resene Boost and Resene Good To Go).

Step 4: When the paint has dried, paint over it with one coat of Resene Clearcoat UVS. This gives the pots a lovely shiny, glossy look. It also helps the paint colour last longer and the gloss finish is easier to clean than a lower sheen finish.
