Hues on the move: A DIY rainbow mobile

24 Apr 2024

Get ready to add a vibrant touch to your nursery, bedroom or porch with this DIY rainbow mobile! With just a few materials and a bit of creativity, you'll create a whimsical piece of hanging art that's sure to brighten any room. So grab your tools and your favourite Resene testpots, and let's get creating.

You will need:

Step 1: Use a pencil to draw your rainbow shape on to the thin wood. Fleur used 4mm plywood but thin MDF would also work.

Step 2: Use a jig saw or band saw to cut out the rainbow shapes. Trim the ends off the rainbow arches so that when they are staggered with the wooden bead between them, the ends will all line up. Sand any rough edges smooth.

Step 3: Paint on two coats of your chosen colours. Fleur used Resene Double Wheatfield, Resene Noosa, Resene Smoke Tree, Resene Fire and Resene Hot Chile. Cut your string twice as long as you want it, double it over and thread the smallest arch through the string loop, followed by a bead. Repeat this, alternating with arches and beads.

Step 4: Hang your mobile wherever you like and enjoy.
