Mini makeover: Let's get geometric
12 Jan 2017
Geometric colour blocking is a favourite technique in the DIY craft community. Here are two projects that are easy to make yourself, simply using Resene testpots and a few other materials.

Project 1: Peek-a-boo placemats
These are perfect to use as coasters or placemats and are a pretty embellishment to the dining room table.
You will need
Scissors, washi tape, Resene testpot in Resene Drop Dead Gorgeous, paintbrush, pencil, ruler, and cork mats.
- Using the ruler, pencil the stripe pattern for your placemats.
- Mask using the washi tape.
- Paint with Resene Drop Dead Gorgeous, applying lightly along the tape.
- ?Peel the washi tape off before the paint dries. Leave to dry.
- Delight guests with your finished placemats.
Project 2: Sharp and chic artwork
Here's a statement piece for your home.
You will need
Scissors, washi tape, Resene testpots in Resene Nero and Resene Black White, piece of MDF, small roller and tray, pencil, and ruler.
- Paint the MDF in Resene Black White and leave to dry.
- Using the ruler, pencil out the pattern (you want rigid lines here, equally spaced apart).
- Mask using the washi tape.
- Using the roller, paint all over with Resene Nero. Don't overload the roller otherwise it will bleed under the tape.
- ?Peel the washi tape off before the paint dries. Leave to dry.
- Your art piece is ready to hang up.
